ATI Radeon X300 aero on Windows 7/Vista.

*Update: Download ATI Radeon X300 driver for Windows 7: http://www.4shared.com/file/199253812/27d26aeb/atix300driver.html

I attached a link which contains the back-up of the driver for ATI Radeon X300 for Windows 7. Since I'm no longer using Windows 7, I can't tell you for sure if it works or not (it should be working). I think it might be installed via control panel, by clicking update drivers (and selecting the file you've downloaded). Note that you should have WinRAR, because it's a .rar file (uncompress it before starting the update procedure). Please leave a comment to know if works or not !

As you probably know, the are some problems on running aero effects from Windows Vista or 7 on ATI Radeon X300 graphic cards, due to incompatible drivers with these operating systems. After searching for hours on forums, I thought there is no change of running aero from Windows 7 on my Dell D610 laptop. But I found a solution, when I was searching a driver for my sound card.

There is a program available, named DriverMax, which searches automatically for newer drivers available for all your components inside your computer. In the free version, you can download only 2 updates for any pc component every day, in the paid version the number being unlimited. Until now, it did his job excellent on all my computers, even if they were running Windows XP, Vista or 7.

So, just give it a try, it takes you nothing: http://www.innovative-sol.com/drivermax/

  2. The Driver worked perfectly in Windows 7.

I have a toshiba M40-221 and getting Windows 7 installed with a huge pain, if you want it work on this laptop you need to somehow disable all Texas instruments (SD Card readers), I did this by creating a vm-image and then converting it to Acronis True Image backup and restoring.

Anyway, for ages i had been trying to find a driver and found this page, downloaded the file, scanned and installed and now i get AERO! :)

  6. Hi Lorin, you are the best! Works perfectly on an old Dell Inspiron 9300 running Windows 7 x32, with x300 128 MB.

Aero works with transparency, themes, and so on.

    Blessings to you, many thanks

  7. Hi sorry if this is unrelated to RADEON x300 on windows 7.. I have windows XP actually, and I was wondering what it means when the system info says I have a RADEON x300/x550/x1050 series graphics card?? Does this mean I have multiple graphics cards? I read somewhere that it meant my graphics driver instead of the actual hardware. If it's so how do I know what is the actual card installed? I'm very confused. I'd like to know for future reference when I download stuff and update my graphics driver.

If you could help me out that'd be great

  8. @mineowyn: It means that your driver is designed for all that graphic cards ( eg: some cards from "X" series from ATI might use the same driver).
Do you have any problem with your graphic card? What model is it exactly? If you don't have any problem, I think that you shouldn't worry. But if your graphic card isn't listed there (x300/x550/x1050), then it might be a problem.

  9. Thanks Lorin for the prompt reply! There's nothing really wrong with my graphics card. I'd just like to know what model it is as a lot of the newer games have higher graphic card requirements. And I'd like to know if I have a x1050 or a x300 so that I can know if my PC's compatible. I've also been exploring my computer to try and get to know what hardware and software I've got installed to better utilize my desktop and OS.

The pc arrived as it is so I don't have the graphics card box, I just know it's an ATI Radeon.

  10. @mineowyn: If I'm not wrong, you may see what model you have by clicking right on the desktop and clicking on the first option (it is something by ATI's driver) or directly on the programs where you should be having an application which has been installed with the driver. Did you receive a CD when you bough the computer which contains the driver for your graphic card? (if not, ask the guys from where you bought the PC, that CD should have been included!!) The application I'm talking about is on that CD.
And I have to tell you that the requirements for games are quite irrelevant. I agree, the overall performance depends on the hardware, but it also depends very much on the software (a hungry antivirus may make a game move really slow, or you can't compare a fresh-installed Widows with a 6-months old installed one).
I think that the best is to try a demo of that game (if available), and then, if you are satisfied with the performances, you can consider buy/getting that game (if this is the situation). Good luck! :)

  12. How do you run this? where is the .exe within the folder?

    ReplyDelete
  13. @Anonymous: have you read the following few lines after the downloading link? There isn't any .exe, it's just the pure driver, you must install it via "device manager". Right click there on what you have on "VGA drivers" (or whatever you have for the graphic card), and update the driver with what you've downloaded. It should be working then.

  15. I have an ASUS X300 (ATI OEM) on my office Pentium 4 with 32-bit Win 7. I downloaded from ATI and installed "9-11_legacy_xp32-64_dd_ccc.exe" and it works perfectly - all AERO features work perfectly. Photoshop CS4 runs good. Is supposed to also install the proper drivers for 64-bit Win 7, but I didn't try it.

  18. I have tried DriverMax - it comes up with a dozen or more driver updates. But when I look in Device manager *that* says the latest drivers are already installed!

And DriverMax has not yet worked once, in half a dozen tries, to download anything.
